Jane Dickson

Artist member since 2020
Millet, Alberta

Jane Dickson, was born in the sixties and raised on a farm in Southern Ontario. She loved to colour and draw as a child, but it would be many years later before she discovered her passion for intuitive painting, while living on the west coast.

This unplanned approach to her art allows for a collaboration between her uncensored imagination and the invisible world of spirit. She begins each piece by creating an acrylic abstract base. Eventually, a face or figure will appear in the paint and she works with mixed media to reveal the story that's waiting to be told.

"For me, intuitive painting is a magical practice and feels like I am co-creating with some hidden force. The mystical nature of this painting process has been life-changing, and I'm delighted to be able to share it with you."

Jane has been included in juried shows like the Pelham Art Festival and the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair. She has also participated in several Art Battles and been featured in ArtAscent Journal. Her paintings can be found in private collections throughout North America.

Jane currently resides on the prairies of Alberta where she continues to enjoy her studio practice.

Q+A

Everyone should know about

The importance of creative expression for our well-being. Keeping our focus on that which brings us joy is good medicine. We are more powerful than we realize and have access to the answers we seek by going within.

When I'm not making art, I'm (a) ...

reading, walking in the woods, photographing nature faces (Nature Spirits), writing poetry, truth-seeking...

In a previous life I was (a) ...

medicine woman - shaman - forest witch

How long have you been creating art?

I have been painting since 2009. At that time I was working in the health food/supplement industry, but I soon became completely fascinated with the process of intuitive painting.

Describe the person your work appeals to in 3 words

Curious, imaginative, spiritually open-minded.

When did you start making art, and why?

I started painting during a time of grieving and I quickly realized the healing power of creative expression. Intuitive painting is a reminder of the mysterious force that guides our lives. It can be a spiritual practice, a healing modality, a meditation, and just plain fun! It can also be used as an oracle, providing insight and inspiration.
